John Akande is a Nigerian figurative artist based in Lagos whose work captures the essence of African culture through the relationship between visual art and sound. Largely self-taught before expanding his creative perspective at the Yaba College of Technology, his practice merges expressionism and realism to explore how music shapes identity, preserves heritage, and functions as a universal language. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Akande utilizes bold contrasts, textured layers, and vibrant palettes to translate the physical movement and emotional intensity of musicians into visual form. His paintings have been featured across both local and international exhibitions.
