We welcome thoughtful work that contributes to the conversations Incongru seeks to cultivate. Whether you are an established writer or publishing for the first time, we invite work marked by intellectual honesty, artistic integrity, and genuine curiosity.
Submission Philosophy
We believe that meaningful work often begins with the courage to ask a difficult question.
We read every submission generously before we read it critically. Our aim is not to decide whether a writer deserves to be heard, but whether a piece contributes meaningfully to the conversation Incongru seeks to cultivate.
Prestige does not determine acceptance. Original thinking, intellectual honesty, artistic integrity, and the quality of the contribution matter far more than reputation.
We welcome established and emerging writers alike. We welcome work that is intellectually ambitious, emotionally courageous, artistically compelling, or conceptually original. We value contributions that deepen understanding, introduce new ideas, illuminate overlooked realities, challenge accepted assumptions, ask better questions, or imagine more humane possibilities.
We edit to strengthen a writer’s voice, never to replace it. We do not ask contributors to make their work more palatable in order to be heard. We ask only that it be thoughtful, sincere, and committed to serious inquiry.
Every submission is approached with respect—for the work, for the writer, and for the humanity from which it emerged.
How to Submit
General submissions are always open.

For Essays, Poetry, Criticism & Interdisciplinary Work
Your submission should include:
- Your name or preferred publishing name
- A short biography (50–100 words)
- The title of your work
- Your complete work, attached as a document where appropriate
- Optional links to previous publications, a portfolio, or a personal website
We do not currently impose a specific word count or formatting requirement. Please submit your work in a clear and readable format.
For Visual Art
Your submission should include:
- Your name or preferred publishing name
- A short biography (50–100 words)
- The title of the artwork
- A high-resolution image of the artwork
- A short description or statement about the work, including its meaning, themes, inspiration, or the ideas it explores
- Optional links to your portfolio, previous publications, or personal website
The description should provide context for the work and help us understand what the artwork represents and what you would like viewers to take from it.
Please attach the artwork as a high-resolution image to your submission email. Where relevant, you may also include additional details such as the medium, dimensions, and year of completion.

Building Our Issues
Every issue of Incongru is an invitation to think together. Rather than assembling unrelated pieces, each issue gathers work that speaks— sometimes in harmony, sometimes in disagreement-to a shared question. Essays, poems, artworks, and ideas exist not as isolated publications, but as parts of a larger conversation.
Issue 01: The Human and The Other (Now Live) For our inaugural issue, Incongru invited work exploring the relationship between perception, identity, and humanity-examining prejudice, belonging, inherited assumptions, and overlooked realities.

Simultaneous Submissions
Simultaneous submissions are welcome. If your work is accepted elsewhere, we kindly ask that you notify us as soon as possible so that we can withdraw it from consideration.
Rights
Authors retain the copyright to their work.
By accepting publication in Incongru, contributors grant us first publication rights and the non-exclusive right to archive the work on our website as part of Incongru’s permanent record.
If a published work is later republished elsewhere, we kindly ask that Incongru be acknowledged as its first place of publication.
Response Time
We aim to respond within 4–8 weeks. Every submission is read with care.
Every submission represents an investment of time, thought, and creative effort. We are grateful to every writer, artist, and thinker who chooses to share their work with us, and we are committed to reading each submission with care, respect, and intellectual generosity.
