Sin of fear, 2023. Acrylic on canvas, 36 × 48 inches.

Sin of Fear is a sharp, unflinching statement on exploitation by figures of authority. Across the canvas, Victor Chigozie Anachuna examines how dominance manifests across politics, religion, culture, and the most mundane corners of daily life. The work confronts a universal psychological barrier: our tendency to bend to the words of the powerful, paralyzed by the consequences of dissent while our silence inadvertently validates their authority.

“Beware of the ones whose authority goes unquestioned, for they are the true sinners.”

Victor Chigozie Anachuna (b. 2001, Anambra State) is a Lagos-based contemporary realist painter and a graduate of Visual Arts from the University of Lagos.

Working in acrylic on canvas, Anachuna uses Renaissance-inspired lighting, controlled gestures, and layered symbolism to explore systems of power, identity, and survival in Nigeria. His figurative works highlight the marginalized, challenging viewers to question social structures and retain their humanity within restrictive systems.

Anachuna’s work has been exhibited internationally, including the “Only Human” solo exhibition at Curtiss Jacobs Gallery, New York; “Revelation” at MAD House, Lagos; and “Genesis” at Lagoon Gallery, Lagos. He also coordinated the Yusuf Grillo 2021 Memorial Collage at Yaba College of Technology.
